Introduction
We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated, and results-driven Debt Collector to join our growing company. Although recently established, we already have access to a large and active debtor database. We are looking for a dedicated individual with debt collection experience in a call centre environment, who is confident working independently and can take initiative without constant supervision.
As a Collections Agent, your main responsibility will be to recover outstanding debts from clients’ customers efficiently and professionally. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the financial success of both our clients and our organisation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement strategies to recover outstanding debts
- Make contact with debtors
- Negotiate payment plans and payoff deadlines
- Maintain professional communication and handle queries or complaints
- Build trust and rapport with debtors to encourage resolution
- Update debtor accounts and keep databases current
- Identify inefficiencies in the collection process and propose improvements
- Ensure compliance with South African debt collection legislation (e.g. DCA, NCA, POPIA)
- Assist with documentation and processes when legal action is required
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in debt collection within a call centre environment
- Fluent in English (essential); additional language will be beneficial
- Proven ability to work towards targets and meet deadlines
- Strong understanding of South African debt collection regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems
- Experience with Swordfish is highly advantageous
- Matric (Grade 12) qualification is essential
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of your performance
