About the Company
Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) established under South Africa’s Skills Development Act to support skills development within the construction and built environment sector. CETA focuses on improving the quality and relevance of education and training in areas such as construction, civil engineering, electrical infrastructure, plumbing, and related trades.
The organisation facilitates and funds learnerships, internships, apprenticeships, bursaries, and skills programmes aimed at addressing skills shortages, improving employability, and supporting transformation in the construction industry. By working closely with employers, training providers, and government, CETA plays a key role in developing a skilled workforce that contributes to sustainable infrastructure development and economic growth in South Africa.
About the CETA Thapelo Madibeng Bursary
Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) invites eligible students to apply for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary Scheme for the 2026 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the built environment, at undergraduate and postgraduate level (including Masters and PhD), which may include but are not limited to:
-Construction Studies (BSc to PhD)
-Construction BIM (All levels to PhD)
-Construction Economics (BSc to PhD)
-Construction Management (BSc to PhD)
-Electrical Engineering (N4 to N6)
-Environmental Management (All levels to PhD)
-Geomatics (BSc to PhD)
-Architecture (National Diploma / BSc to PhD)
-Building Arts (BA)
-Building Construction or Equivalent (N4 to N6)
-Civil Engineering (BSc to PhD)
-Climate Change Science (All levels to PhD)
-Property Development (BSc)
-Quantity Surveying (BSc to PhD)
-Real Estate (National Diploma)
-Urban and Regional Planning (BSc to PhD)
-Other construction-related fields
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation and meals. The bursary may also cover transport fees (with conditions). Masters and PhD students will also receive a research allowance.
Qualifying Criteria for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary:
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
-You must be a South African citizen
-You must be currently unemployed
-You must be have completed Matric
-You must be studying or intend on studying towards a qualification within the built environment field, at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level
-You must be studying or registered/ accepted to study at a public institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET College)
-You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 50%
-You must have a total household income of less than R600 000 per annum

-Matric certificate/ statement of results (if a 1st year applicant)
-Latest academic record (for 2nd year onwards)
-Proof of acceptance to study at a tertiary institution (on letterhead)
-Quotation of Student Fees, if available
-Parents or guardians ID documents/ death certificates (certified copies)
-Parents or guardians proof of income (3 months latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
-Proof of your home address (Original Municipal Account, Bank Statement, Account Statement or -Original Letter from Tribal Authority or Councillor)
-Copy of SASSA card (front and back) or proof of your grant, if receiving a SASSA grant
-Details of other funding received, if applicable (NSFAS or any other SETA other than the CETA)
-Medical Certificate, if disabled
